Date: 24 May 1906
Archibald Wakeley was killed in his flat by burglars who were trying to break into the bank next door.
He had been beaten over the head.
Archibald Wakeley was an artist but had not yet achieved eminence.
He lived on the third floor together with an Oriental painter. It was suggested that the burglars were attempting to make their way through into the Provincial Bank building next door.
The ground floor was occupied by a firm of solicitors.
