Mashboor Hussain

Age: 73

Sex: male

Date: 11 Feb 2014

Place: 103 Selkirk Road, Tooting

Mashboor Hussain died after two men forced their way into his home at 103 Selkirk Road, Tooting.

Two men were charged with his murder and manslaughter but the charges against them were later dropped due to the lack of evidence. The Crown Prosecution Service said that there was insufficient evidence for a realistic prospect of conviction. The person charged with murder had been a 20-year-old whilst the youth charged with manslaughter had been a 19-years-old.

It was thought that the two men had been trying to burgle Mashboor Hussain's home. It was heard that they were both black men and that they had forced their way in with a gun after Mashboor Hussain had answered his door on 11 February 2014 at about 11.45pm and that there was then a scuffle. Mashboor Hussain later had a heart attack and collapsed and died in his hallway. The police arrived soon after and pronounced him dead at 12.53pm.

The police were called to his house at 11.45pm on 11 February 2014 after a passer-by reported seeing two men banging on his front door.

His cause of death was given as coronary heart disease, although the Coroner noted that it was likely to have been caused by the burglary and was as such murder.

The two men were said to have fled with a red Nike shoe box containing cash and a mobile phone.

They were both described as black and wearing hooded tops, and it was noted that one of them was slim and had been wearing gloves.

Mashboor Hussain's wife and daughter had been in the house at the time of the attack.

He had had eight grandchildren and had worked at a butchers in Elephant and Castle.
