Gabriel Egharevba was shot as he rode his bike along a street in Longsight.
He was shot in the back in Coverdale Crescent at about 10pm as he rode his mountain bike to his mother's house. Six shots had been fired at him from a 9mm self-loading pistol by a person from a motorbike or scooter. The gunman, along with an accomplice also on a motorbike or scooter, was said then to have ridden off at speed along New Bank Street. The man was said to have fired two bursts.
He had been riding with a friend at the time and was found soon after, bleeding to death in the street and died at the scene.
He was 6ft tall and described as a gentle giant. It was said that he had never been in trouble with the police and it was thought that his murder might have been a case of mistaken identity.
