Abdulkarim Boudiaf

Age: 18

Sex: male

Date: 14 Mar 2009

Place: Elmhurst Hotel, Lordship Lane, Tottenham, North London

Abdulkarim Boudiaf was shot in the chest and the back of his neck outside the Elmhurst Hotel pub on Lordship Lane on 14 March 2009.

A man was tried for his murder but was acquitted.

He had been out with some friends to a kebab shop around 10pm and as they were walking back through an alleyway by the Elmhurst Hotel pub a gunman confronted them and then shot Abdulkarim Boudiaf. When Abdulkarim Boudiaf fell down the gunman bent down and shot him again. The gunman had shot him at point blank range.

Abdulkarim Boudiaf was still alive when paramedics arrived at 10.20pm but died within an hour following some emergency surgery in the street.

At the time, a Saturday night, the pub, which was hosting a disco night, had been crowded.

His friends said that they identified the gunman by a distinctive tattoo on his neck. The person they identified had also been in the Elmhurst Hotel pub that day and had gone the following day to see a friend at Sussex University in Brighton. However, he was acquitted after a two-week trial.

The motive for the shooting was not known. It was thought that the shooting might have been a case of mistaken identity or random.

Abdulkarim Boudiaf was from Algeria and was preparing to go to Northampton University in September to study for a degree in law after having completed his A-levels. At the time he had been working part-time in a shop and it was not known why anyone would want to kill him.
