Mohammed Akram was shot in the head.
He was found dead in some woods near to Ackers Lane in Carrington.
His body was found by a cyclist at about 8am on Monday 11 November 1996.
His car was then found about an hour later a mile away in Bromley Avenue, Flixton. It was a light blue Toyota Corolla and still had the keys in its ignition.
Although the motive was not known, it was thought it wasn't robbery.
At the time of the murder, four men were seen near the scene of the murder, but they were all identified by the police and ruled out of the enquiry.
Mohammed Akram was a taxi-driver.
