Ola Raji was shot and stabbed whilst he was riding through East Surrey Grove in Peckham.
He was attacked at about 10.30pm on 21 April 2015. He was shot first, and after he fell to the ground, he was stabbed several times. It was thought that he had been shot at three times and hit twice.
He was shot in East Surrey Grove just off Commercial Way.
When the police arrived at the scene they found Ola Raji lying between two parked cars.
He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after. He had been shot in the chest, which had resulted in his death.
Witnesses reported seeing some youths fleeing shortly after towards Sumner Road from Cator Road via a cut-through and then into Rosemary Road before heading off towards Surrey Canal Path.
The police said that they were also trying to trace a black 2011 BMW car that had been parked in East Surrey Grove opposite the Damilola Taylor Centre. The police also enquired about a silver car that was also seen near the centre.
The police later released a CCTV image in September 2015 of two suspects going into East Surrey Grove who they wanted to identify.
The police said that they thought that he had been confronted by two people near the Damilola Taylor Centre as he cycled by. The two men were both described as black. Witnesses said that they thought that they had heard fireworks and said that they then saw two black men running off through Rosemary Road.
It was said that before the police arrived, three women had been seen comforting Ola Raji as he lay injured. The police said that they were interested in speaking to the women who were all described as being black. The police said that one of them appeared visibly upset and that one had been wearing a red jacket whilst another had been wearing a black jacket.
The police said that they were considering robbery to have been a motive as it was thought that Ola Raji had had a rucksack or a small bag or pouch under his body warmer with him at the time he was shot which was never found. The police noted that Ola Raji would habitually carry the back about with him. They said that shortly before he had spoken to a person on the phone and had then cycled over to East Surrey Grove, but it was not known why.
The police said that they were interested in hearing from anyone that knew what Ola Raji had been doing between 10pm and 10.30pm, during which time his movements were not known. He had left his house at about 10.15pm without telling his parents where he was going. East Surrey Grove was about two minutes cycle ride away from where he lived.
It was thought that he had been shot with a handgun.
Three men were arrested but it was said that there was insufficient evidence to charge them.
