Erdogan Guzel was shot whilst sitting outside his bakery.
He was shot in a drive by shooting along with another woman at 5.45pm on 10 July 2015 and died at the scene at about 7pm. The other person shot was a 51-year-old woman who had been out shopping with her daughter, but she recovered from her injuries.
Erdogan Guzel died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
It was thought that he was not the intended target and that he had been an innocent bystander. The police said that the shooting was due to an escalating turf war between rival North London gangs.
A dark saloon car was seen to speed of towards Tottenham soon after. In July 2019 the police released CCTV footage taken from a bus that showed the car as it drove up slowly to a group of people amongst which was Erdogan Guzel before the occupants opened fire on them. The car was later found in the car park of a block of flats in Highgate a few miles away. Its registration, X824 ELE, had been altered with black tape.
At the time of the shooting, there had been a group of about eight or ten men stood nearby that police said they were interested in tracing.
Nine people were arrested during the investigation, but none of them were charged.
Erdogan Guzel was Turkish and had two children. He had come to the United Kingdom in 1999 from Aksaray, in central Turkey.
