Age: 0

Sex: male

Date: 22 Jul 1904

Place: Half-Moon Plantation, Archerfield House, Dirleton, Haddingtonshire

A child was found dead in the Half-Moon Plantation at Archerfield House, Dirleton.

The mother had had a stormy relationship with a man with whom she had had a child. She went to see him with the child and laid it at his feet and left.

The child was found dead five months later in the Half-Moon Plantation in the grounds.

The man was charged with murder but acquitted.

The mother had travelled from Newcastle with the child on 22 July 1904 to Archerfield, Haddingtonshire, but after a row with him she left the baby at his feet and stormed off.

The defence claimed that it was the mother that had killed the child.
