David Augustus

Age: 63

Sex: male

Date: 1 Sep 1900

Place: Alexandra Street, Canning Town, London

David Augustus was found dead in the street with his head and face much cut and bruised and his left hand trouser pocket turned inside out.

He was a shipwright and lived on Webb Street in Plaistow.

The doctor said that his face and head were covered with bruises and abrasions and there was a deep incised wound just under his right eye that might have been caused by a not very sharp penknife.

Death was due to shock consequent on the injuries.

The coroner's jury was undecided as to whether the injury below the eye was caused by a knife or a fall, and returned a verdict that he had died from his injuries but that there was no evidence to show how he had received them.
