Atiyebi Omuaru was shot as he picked up his car from a garage.
He was followed into the Nirro Garage on the Lyons Industrial Estate by two men who then shot him. However, he was still able to engage with them and they started fighting. During the struggle he was shot again multiple times and jumped behind the counter. One of the gunmen then leaned over the counter and shot him again several times and then his attackers fled.
They drove off in a dark-coloured, black, navy blue or green, Vauxhall Omega Saloon car. It was said to have been a 1994 to 1999 model and to have had five spoke alloy wheels. It had had an M to V registration prefix although the police said that the number plates might have been false.
When an ambulance arrived Atiyebi Omuaru was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other people had been in the garage at the time but none of them were injured.
CCTV evidence showed that the Vauxhall car had arrived at the garage at 4.10pm and that it had waited until Atiyebi Omuaru had arrived just before 6pm.
The attackers were said to have been in their 20s (aged 20 to 30) and black. One was wearing a black Puffa-style bomber jacket and was about 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall whilst the other man was wearing a yellow high visibility jacket with a hood and about 5ft 10in to 5ft 11in tall.
Atiyebi Omuaru had gone to the garage to pick up his car which had just been serviced.
