Henry Lawes was shot twice in a drive-by shooting.

He had been walking down the street when a blue Daewoo Matiz car drove by with five men in it and started shooting at him. He then ran off and the men got out of their car and started to chase him. However, Henry Lawes tripped and fell and when the men caught up with him they shot him dead.

Henry Lawes was a record producer and he had just gone out to buy some cigarettes. He was shot as he returned home from the corner shop.

It was heard that the people that had shot him made no attempt to hide their identities.

He was noted for his career in music production in Jamaica. In the early 1980's he had gone to New York where he was convicted for a drugs related crime and then later deported back to Jamaica in 1991. He continued to work there in the music scene but later came to the United Kingdom around 1997 but in Christmas 1998 it was said that he was planning on returning to Jamaica in the week following his murder.

He was also known as Henry 'Junjo' Lawes.
