Richard Rayner was shot in the head.
He had been waiting for breakfast at the River Bank cafe in the East End when a man on a motorbike drove up and shot him in the head.
He was a plumber and it was thought that his shooting was a case of mistaken identity.
It was said that a prime suspect that was living in Spain was alerted to the fact that the police were planning to interview him over the murder.
