Alan Sheard was attacked on Leeds Road, Thornbury and later died in Leeds General Infirmary the following day.

He was walking along the Leeds Road after drinking in local pubs on the Sunday night at 7pm when he got into an argument with a group of Asian youths, one of whom then assaulted him.

Another witness said that Alan Sheard had been shouting racial abuse at the youths.

Police arrested two youths aged 19 and 23 but no one was charged.
