Elizabeth Ann Dent was found dead at the foot of her stairs.
She had two punctured wounds in her left eye which were the cause of death.
A window had been broken open and her cottage had been ransacked.
It was commonly thought in the area that she had money and it was thought that robbery was the motive. It was thought that she had heard someone downstairs and had gone down to investigate and was murdered.
