William OHara died after being attacked at Thurnscoe Coronation Working Men’s Club in Stuart Street, Thurnscoe at about 5pm on Saturday, 29 March 2014.
Three men were initially arrested in connection with the incident and a 53-year-old man was later charged with his murder on 1 April 2014. However, no further details about the charge are known. Another 39-year-old man was charged with burglary and perverting the course of justice whilst a 33-year-old was charged with perverting the course of justice.
After the assault he was taken to Barnsley District General Hospital where he died on the Monday, 31 March 2014.
It was heard that the alleged assault had taken place after a row at the club between William OHara and the 53-year-old man.
His post-mortem stated that he died from head injuries.
William OHara was from Castlerock in County Londonderry and had come to England in 1989 to work on the railway and had lived in Thurnscoe.
