A child was found wrapped in brown paper in the Regents Canal on 14 September 1908. It lived for another 15 days but died from exhaustion and blood poisoning.

A woman accompanied by a man was seen to throw the parcel into the canal.

On the child’s mouth and body there were burns and the medical opinion was that they were caused by vitriol or sulphuric acid.
