Elsie Elizabeth Herzell

Age: 22

Sex: female

Date: 26 Aug 1910

Place: Albert Road, Leyton

Elsie Elizabeth Herzell died from an illegal operation.

Elsie Herzell was the daughter of a German baker.

She died in St Marys Hospital.

She had been an assistant in a Wood Green paper shop for the previous seventeen months.

Her mother said that Elsie Herzell had come home from her employment about two months earlier where she stayed for two weeks before going to Islington. She then came back after a fortnight with a bad cough and took some stuff that made her sick. She said that Elsie Herzell had told her that she had taken that for a certain purpose but did not know that until about a week before the doctor came. She said that Elsie Herzell had told her that she had been offered £5 to go to Paris to have an operation and begged and cried to her mother to let her go there but the mother said that she would not hear of it.

Then a few days before she went to the infirmary she said that her daughter had told her that she had been taken to a French woman twice whilst she was in Islington.
