David Turnbull was killed during a burglary in his shop.

He was found by a constable who found his door unlocked at 6.30am and when he went in to investigate found David Turnbull lying on the floor with a wound to his head. However, David Turnbull soon died.

Housebreaking tools including a jemmy, saw and a chisel were found lying nearby as well as a tin containing a quantity of ferrocyanide of potassium and a jug containing water.

The safe had stood on a wooden structure in the inner office and had been blown open with some powerful explosive. The safe had caused an indentation in the floor where it fell.
