Louisa Heathcote was found dead in a mere.
It was not known how she had ended up in the mere.
She had been the wife of a farmer.
The last time she was seen was on the Thursday afternoon after she had brought her husband his dinner. She was seen by her daughter at 4pm feeding the chickens having brought them water in a basin which she had returned to the house.
She was later found by her daughter in the mere which was nearby on a plantation. The daughter and her brother pulled her out and tried artificial restoration but to no avail.
Although she had been ill and medically attended to, she had never threatened to take her own life.
