Pearce

Age: 45

Sex: male

Date: 23 Sep 1913

Place: North Sea

Pearce was a passenger on a steamer from London to Dundee when he vanished.

Not much more was known about who he was. His luggage was found in his portmanteau which consisted of a handbag which when opened revealed no trace of his identity along with a large collection of miscellaneous clothing and articles.

He was a trader and had made the trip twice before.

At around midnight a steward was closing up the cabins for the night when he missed Pearce. He had been seen three hours before at 9pm and a search was made for him but no trace of him could be found and it was thought that he had gone overboard.

Although he had spoken to a number of the other passengers during his trip little was actually known of him other than he was a private detective or had been a member of the Metropolitan Police.

The steamer was run by the DP and L Shipping Company and docked at Victoria Dock in Dundee.

He had only taken a single ticket to Dundee and it was thought that he had intended to have a prolonged stay in Scotland.

He had joined the steamer just before it left London and was given Berth No. 7.

He had been respectably dressed and didn't exhibit any despondent tendencies.

He was described as being 40 to 50 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches in height, with a pale complexion, a dark brown moustache and with a thin build, round shouldered and to have been wearing a slate coloured suit and cap.
