Ade Pukeliene

Age: 57

Sex: female

Date: 28 Feb 2008

Place: Emerald Close, Canary Wharf

Ade Pukeliene died after being mugged.

She had worked as a cleaner for a bank in Canary Wharf and was going home at 6am following a night shift. She had taken the Docklands Light Railway from Canary Wharf to Royal Albert station and was then thought to have been followed in Emerald Close, Beckton, near to her home, where she was knocked to the ground and her handbag stolen. She was later found at about 7am. It was thought that she had been attacked about 20 minutes earlier at 6.40am.

She fractured her skull in the fall and was taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel where she later died. Her cause of death was given as head injury.

Her handbag had contained her Oyster card for travel around London and her work ID.

Witnesses said that they had heard screaming and then saw two black men wearing masks or scarves running off to a scooter and then riding off along Stansfield Road. It was thought that they had then ridden off through Beckton District Park at 6.50am and then gone along the A13. The scooter, which had no registration plate, was found the next day near the Canning Town flyover in a retail estate.

The suspects were described as black, between 5ft 8ins and 6ft tall and in their late teens or early twenties.

When Ade Pukeliene had left work she had been wearing a pink hat, a light coloured jacket and dark trousers. She had also been carrying a black shoulder handbag which was missing and not found.

She was a Lithuanian and had come to the UK two years earlier to spend more time with her grandson.
