The body of a new born female child was found in a dry dyke near the Victoria Barracks in Beverley.
It was found in a drain about 50 yards from the road and was quite nude. There was no water in the drain which was about 5 feet deep.
The doctor who examined it said that it was 5lb 10oz and had been born about 4-5 days before and had not been washed.
He thought that the child had had a separate existence and said that death was caused by want of attention at birth and haemorrhage or exposure, both of which were determining factors.
