Man

A man was found with his throat cut in a ditch near Arbroath.

He was discovered by two girls who were walking from the farm of Peasiehill, a mile North of Arbroath in a ditch to the side of the Hospitalfield estate.

His throat was cut and there was a razor lying beside him. His body looked as though it had been there for about two days.

He had his right arm missing from his shoulder and was respectably dressed in a dark blue suit with green stripes, brown boots, black socks, a light shirt, a blue tie and a straw hat. He also had on him a gold Waltham lever watch and a copy of the Evening Telegraph and Post, dated 24 August 1915.

His identity was not known but he matched the description of a person that had stayed at an Arbroath hotel from Saturday afternoon until Tuesday evening when he disappeared. He left behind a brown leather case containing a dark grey tweed suit and some linen although there was nothing to identify him. He was clean shaven, with reddish hair and he was about 5ft. 7in tall.

The man had said that he had travelled a good deal across Canada and the United States and spoke with an English accent.
