The body of an unknown man was found with a superficial wound to his throat and his wrist slit at Blundellsands, Lancashire on the afternoon of Tuesday 20 April 1915.

The body was discovered by a bank clerk who lived on Cambridge Road and was taking a walk in the sandhills when he found it in a hollow.

A doctor said that the wound across the throat was five inches long but superficial whilst the wound to the wrist was gaping and had completely severed the arteries, veins and tendons.

The cause of death was given as haemorrhage and an open verdict was returned at his inquest in Crosby on the evening of Friday 23 April 1915 with the jury adding that there was no evidence to show how the wounds were inflicted.
