The body of a newly-born male infant was found dead in a hedge near Rayleigh Station.
It had been wrapped up in a piece of black sateen apron and brown paper and tied up with string, and placed in a hedge at the side of the Great Eastern Railway at Rayleigh, near the station.
It was said that the body had been recently deposited.
The inquest, which was heard on Saturday 31 March 1917, returned a verdict of murder against some person or persons unknown.
