Elizabeth Marie Mcgowan died from an illegal operation.

On 19 January 1917 she had said that her sister was ill and had taken a leave of absence during which she went to stay with her sister. During her stay she became ill and started to vomit but refused to see a doctor until her condition became more serious on 24 January 1917 and a doctor was called.

The pathologist stated that death was due to peritonitis set up by an internal injury produced by an illegal operation.

When the doctor arrived he found Elizabeth Mcgowan in a moribund state and she died soon after.

She had been employed by the Motor Club on Coventry Street where she had been working for 18 months and lived on the premises.

She was a native of Longford, County Longford in Ireland.
