Baby

The body of a baby was found wrapped up in newspaper in the second class carriage of a train at Hammersmith Station.

It had been suffocated with cotton wool.

The inquest on the child's death was held at the same time as that of a dead baby found in Conan Road and the Coroner said that both children had no doubt been brutally murdered.

He said that he presumed they had both come from the same district, West Kensington, and that they had probably been born in a lying in house, noting that the evil was that such houses were not under proper supervision which he had advocated previously before a Royal Commission, and that until some legislation of that sort was introduced the police would have the greatest difficulty in getting a clue.
