Baby

Age: 0

Sex: female

Date: 5 Apr 1916

Place: Sneinton Dale

The body of a newly-born female child was found in Sneinton Dale.

The child's body was found at the foot of the Suburban railway bridge on the Colwick side on enclosed land at 7.35am on the Wednesday morning 5 April 1916.

There was a piece of sacking lying over its feet that looked as though it had been wrapped up in it.

It was thought that the child had been dropped there either from the road or from a passing train.

A doctor stated that the child had had a separate existence and had probably lived for some time. There was no outward sign of injury but the child's skull was severely fractured which had been the cause of death.

The doctor stated that he thought the child had been thrown from a train as there would not have been so much haemorrhage if her injuries had been inflicted in life.
