Place: Gypsy Race, Beck Hill, Bridlington

The body of a newly born male child was found floating in the Gypsy Race near Beck Hill in Bridlington.

It was discovered by a man from Chestnut Cottage who was crossing the grass when he saw something floating.

It had been held up by some wire netting that he had placed across the stream. When he inspected it he found that it was the body of a child wrapped up in paper and tied around with coarse string. The wrappings were made from brown paper and various newspapers.

The cause of death was given as neglect at birth.
