Place: Ramslye Farm, Tunbridge Wells, Kent

The body of a newly born child was found dead in the pond at Ramslye Farm in Tunbridge Wells by a farmer.

The farmer had been walking round a meadow when he saw something floating in the pond. He said that it was about three yards from the bank and in about three feet of water. He got a pole and drew it out and found that it was a child.

There was a footpath about 300 yards from the pond leading from Eridge Road to High Rocks.

When a policeman arrived at 12.30pm he found the child naked.

When the child was examined by a doctor, he said that it was in an advanced state of decomposition and that part of its skull was missing as was skin around the neck. He said that he could not say that anything had been tied around its neck but that it was probable.

He said that he thought the child had been in the water for about four months.
