Sex: male

Date: 7 Oct 1919

Place: St. Josephs Cemetery, Moxton Lane, Manchester

The body of a newly-born child was found on the bier in a cemetery chapel by a Sexton.

The Sexton had gone to the cemetery chapel on 7 October 1919 and had found a wooden box wrapped up in brown paper with a two shilling piece beneath the string of the parcel. On the outside of the parcel the words 'Still born' had been written. However, he said that he was confident that when he had first seen the parcel 15 minutes earlier there was no writing on it.

The child was fully dressed and a handkerchief had been placed over its face.

However, according to the medical evidence the child had been asphyxiated.
