Child

The body of a child was found dead in a brook.

The mother was tried for it's murder but acquitted.

The mother had given birth to the child at the Union Workhouse in Penrhyndeudrath on 28 May 1920.

She later found work with a farmer on 26 July 1920. She left the workhouse taking her child with her, however, the child was later found dead in a brook on 16 September 1920. The medical evidence stated that the child had not drowned and had died from head injuries, possibly caused by a horse or cow.

The mother said that she had carried the child 7 miles from the farm to the station and in desperation left the child by the brook saying that she had no money to maintain it and could not take it home and hoped that someone would find it by the brook and take care of it.

It was not known how the child had received its head injuries or ended up in the brook.
