Geoffrey Bacon was attacked outside his flat and knocked to the ground.
He was attacked on 26 April 2010 and afterwards taken to the hospital where he later died on 5 August 2010.
He was knocked to the ground and punched at about 10.45am and suffered a fractured hip leaving him unable to move. He then lay there on the pavement waiting for help, hitting the pavement with his walking stick to attract attention.
His attacker took his wallet with £40 in it and his Freedom Pass.
His attacker was described as a light-skinned black man, aged between 30 to 40 years.
Police said that his murder was associated with another similar attack that took place soon after on the same day at 11.10am on a 66-year old woman who was walking with a walking stick on the same estate. A man had approached her as she reached the communal entrance to her building and grabbed her handbag which he then hit her with about the head before running off with it. The suspect in that case was described as a light-skinned black man, aged about 25 years old.
Geoffrey Bacon was a Second World War veteran.
