Timothy Long

Age: 32

Sex: male

Date: 8 Dec 1920

Place: Washwood Heath, Birmingham

Timothy Long was found dead on a railway line. A bloodstained knife and a shattered window were found in the compartment that he had been in.

He had been travelling from Barry.

He was a ship's fireman from Greenock and had lived on West Blackhall Street in Glasgow.

One theory was that he had woken up to find the door open to his compartment and that in an attempt to close it he had lost his balance and that a passing light engine had struck him and a wheel had passed over his head.

Initially it was thought that there was no foul play and that he had roused from his sleep, forced the carriage door open, and in the act of shutting it was hurled against the window, his arm passing through the glass and that he then lost his balance and fell onto the line.
