Place: River Rother, Killmarsh
The body of a newly-born child was found in a tree overhanging the River Rother at Killmarsh.
It was thought that the child had been deposited there during a flood.
It was also thought that it had been dead when put into the water and that it had been put in in a bag and when the bag had reached the tree the child was thrown out. A sock was found lodged nearby on another bough.
