Date: 10 May 1920

Place: Southsea Common, Southsea, Hampshire

A man found the body of a newly-born female child in a parcel lying close to some railings around some shrubs on Southsea Common on Monday 10 May 1920.

When the parcel was examined it was found to have some studs which formed part of the wrapping that had the words, 'Foyer Tolego' on them.

A doctor who examined the body said that the lungs were expanded to a limited extend but it was hard to say whether the child had had a separate existence. He said that there was no evidence of violence having been used.

He said that he thought that the child had been born four to nine days earlier.

He said that if a skilled person had been present at the birth that he saw no reason why the child should not have been born alive.

The Coroner returned as verdict to the effect that there was insufficient evidence to show whether the child had been born alive or not.
