The body of a newly-born female child was found behind a shop in Sabden on Monday 19 April 1920.

Earlier an unknown woman was seen to leave the out building and a short while later moans were heard. A person went in to investigate and found the baby in the bottom of the lavatory.

The police were called and the child recovered but later died.

The Coroner's jury agreed that the child had been born in the out building.

The cause of death was given as exposure and an injury to the head.
