Sex: male

Date: 6 Jul 2010

Place: Higham Station Avenue, Chingford

Wayne Powell was shot in Higham Station Avenue, Chingford.

He was shot at 11.15pm on 5 July 2010 after he got out of his black BMW which was parked up near his gym to talk to a man who had walked up to his car. When Wayne Powell got out of his car the man first shot him. Wayne Powell then tried to run away but was shot again.

The gunman shot him four times and then walked off along a footpath in the direction of Coningsby Gardens. He was described as possibly being black, about 5ft 10ins and wearing a tracksuit. It was thought he had used a handgun.

Two witnesses gave conflicting statements over the description of the gunman. The first had said that he had been wearing a grey tracksuit with zip up in front and wearing his hood up, whilst the other witness said that the gunman had been wearing a brown hooded top with the hood up and wearing  dark-coloured jogging bottoms.

The police said that they did not think that Wayne Powell had been involved with any criminal activity. They also said they could not state whether he was shot in a case of mistaken identity.

He worked as a customer assistant for the London Underground at Seven Sisters and was a DJ known as DJ Connoisseur. He spent a lot of time at a barber's shop in Upper Clapton and was also a fitness fanatic and bodybuilder.
