The body of a newly-born male child was found in a bag in the River Avon near Sea Mills.
It was found by a boatman on Saturday 12 March 1921.
The doctor that carried out the post mortem examination said that the child had been a newly born male infant, weighing 6¾lb and considerably decomposed.
He said that a stocking was found round the child's neck and tucked in, but not tied and that the neck had been grooved by the constriction.
He said there were no other injuries and that the lungs were deeply congested, with the brain also showing signs of congestion.
He said that the cause of death was asphyxia from strangulation.
The jury at the inquest returned a verdict of murder against some person or persons unknown.
