Age: 0
Sex: female
Date: 8 Apr 1901
Place: River Wear, Wearmouth Bridge
The body of a newly-born child was found in the River Wear near the south end of Wearmouth Bridge.
It was nude and fully developed and seemed to have been in the water for two days.
The base of the skull was fractured but it was not possible to say whether that was caused deliberately or by some other means such as a ship's propeller.
