Man

Age: 65

Sex: male

Date: 4 Jan 1904

Place: Allisley, Coventry

A man was found dead in a ditch with injuries to the back of his head.

His body was found by two children on the Saturday afternoon. He was lying face upwards when found.

They went for the police who took the man out and found that he had died from a severe blow to the back of his head.

The man's heavy leather belt and a stout hazel stick were found a few yards from his body and there was evidence of a terrible struggle having taken place.

The man's pockets had also been turned inside out. All that was found on the man was a white-handled clasp knife.

He had been wearing a suit of brown corduroy.

It was thought that he had been dead since around the middle of the week from 1 January 1904 onwards or possibly earlier.
