Date: 29 Nov 1922

Place: Victoria Station, London

The body of a newly-born child was found on the 10.08am train from Brighton to Victoria.

It had been wrapped up in satin and brown paper.

The surgeon said that the child had been suffocated by direct pressure on its mouth and then placed in a hot oven and baked. He said that he could not state whether the burning took place before death.

The Coroner said that it was evident that in Brighton or one of the 14 stops between Brighton and Victoria there was a young woman who was probably a cook who had committed murder.
