Alice Giaconelli died from burns after catching fire at her home.
Her husband said that she had poured petrol over her head whilst they were having a few words and stood near the fire where she had caught fire. He said that he tried to extinguish the flames with a rug but denied assaulting her.
He said that Alice Giaconelli had been suffering from pains in the head and had previously threatened to take her own life.
The Coroner's jury said that there was insufficient evidence to show how her injuries were caused.
She had died from shock caused by burns.
Her husband had been an out of work painter in receipt of the dole.
