Child

Age: 18 months

Sex: unknown

Date: 10 Jul 1909

Place: Creswell Cragg Lake, Creswell Craggs

The body of a child aged between 12 to 18 months was found in Creswell Cragg Lake.

It was found by a man who had been cutting the grass with a scythe at the side of the lake. He saw the body floating in the water whilst the head was later found in a sack at the bottom of the lake about 6 to 8 feet away.

Further along the lake edge, about 15 feet, he found wooden portions of a perambulator.

It was noted that it was a road that was much frequented by tramps.

The labourer called the police who then raked the body out and found the skull of the child inside the sack and a stone about the size of a coconut to weigh it down. The rest of the body was thought to have been in the water for about six months.

The body was too decomposed to determine its sex.
