George Sheppard

Age: 35

Sex: male

Date: 12 Apr 1909

Place: River Tone

George Sheppard was found dead in the River Tone.

He was last seen on 12 April 1909 and was found in the river on 23 April 1909.

His post-mortem revealed that he had a serious bruise on the back of his head and a bruise over his left eye and his right eye was black. He also had bruises on his shins. It was said that all the injuries had been caused before his death and his death was not due to drowning as there was no water in his lungs or windpipe.

It was however, thought that he might have suffocated whilst in the water and it was noted that his injuries were sufficient to have stunned him but not kill him.

It was noted that he was of weak intellect and quarrelsome and violent when drunk.
