Albert Bishop

Albert Bishop died about four months after he was attacked in his home by a man who stole £700 from him.

He was attacked in the hallway of his home by a man with a ball pein hammer on 18 March 2007.

Earlier that morning he had been to Ashford Market on the Orbital Park where he helped at a grocery store that also sold imported cigarettes.

He was found minutes later by his daughter. He survived the attack but suffered serious arm and head injuries and was taken to several hospitals in Kent and Essex where he received treatment.

At the time of the attack church goers would have been leaving the church opposite his house. There was also a bus stop outside his house that people might have been stood at and seen something suspicious.

He was later discharged but on 30 June 2007 he had a fall at his home and fractured his femur. He was taken to hospital where an operation was carried out but later died from his injuries on 13 July 2007 at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford. His death was ruled to have been a direct result of the hammer attack and the Home Office pathologist ruled that it was murder.

After he was first attacked he had said that his attacker was a white male in his 50's and that he had stolen about £700 from him which he had taken away in a blue Nike rucksack that had his grandson’s work boots in it.

Police said that they were interested in speaking to anyone that had bought cigarettes from Albert Bishop who sold them both at the market as well as in local pubs.

In July 2012 a woman was convicted for sending a malicious communication to Albert Bishop's daughter. She made an anonymous and threatening Christmas card out of letters from a newspaper which she sent to the daughter addressed from 'Dad's Killer'. She was fined £200 and ordered to do 40 hours community service.
