Ellen Rowlands was found drowned in Sandy Lane Pool.
She was last seen going out to church on New Year's Eve. She was later found dead in the pond fully clothed including her gloves and spectacles.
When she was found her head and neck were terribly injured and it was thought that she might have been the victim of foul play.
Sandy Lane Pool was on private property and was enclosed by a high fence tipped with barbed wire. The only access was through a high wooden door that was always kept locked. It was not thought that she would have been able to have climbed over the fence.
Her body was found by a fireman who had been preparing his boat for a day's pike fishing on the pond.
An open verdict was returned at her inquest and no evidence of foul play was found.
She had been a parlour maid.
