Henry Ernest Wright

Henry Ernest Wright was found dead in the River Thames near Tower Bridge in January 1924.

He had been missing since 29 November 1923.

On the day he disappeared he had gone off to work as normal but after leaving that evening was not seen again.

The previous night he had been with his sweetheart and accompanied her home and then made an arrangement to meet her the next day which he didn't do.

He had lived in Quick's Road, Wimbledon and had been employed by a firm of musical instrument makers in Highgate.

Both his father and his sweatheart stated that he had had no trouble and that they couldn't throw any light onto the mystery.

The Coroner said that the case was inexplicable, noting that Henry Wright had been a healthy young man, normal mentally and physically and in good employment. He went on to note that he had money in the Savings Bank and had spent a pleasant evening in the company of his parents and had gone to work the next day as normal and after leaving was not seen alive again.

He said that there was no evidence to show how he came to be in the water, noting that he might have given way to a some uncontrollable impulse.

An open verdict was returned.
