Marion Mary Sale Wright

Age: 36

Sex: female

Date: 31 Jan 1923

Place: Cleethorpes

Marion Mary Sale Wright died from what was thought to have been an illegal operation.

Her mother said that she had been in a certain condition and that a young married man was responsible.

Marion Wright's mother said that Marion Wright had pointed to some letters and said, 'If anything happens to me send those to his wife'.

She had been to see her doctor about suffering from a threatened abortion and the doctor made arrangements to make an examination the following day but she died suddenly before he could do that.

Her post-mortem stated that she had died from a rupture of an abscess and peritonitis. However, the doctor that examined her said that he could find no definite evidence to show that an instrument had been used to bring about an abortion but stated that an instrument produced at the inquest would have been suited for that purpose.

Other evidence stated that a young man had visited her on the Sunday before she died but he could not be traced.
