Gertrude Emily Smith was found lying in a passage near her home.
She was found by a policeman lying across the passage apparently unconscious. She was quickly taken to the Royal Infirmary by ambulance but when she got there a doctor pronounced her as dead.
There were slight marks of violence on her head and face although there was no evidence to show how she had received her injuries and an open verdict was returned.
Furniture Place was also described as Furniture Buildings, but its is not clear whether that was in Hill Street off Maxwell Street, which was industrial, or another Hill Street.
